NFL squares (also called football squares or a squares game) is a popular game that adds excitement to watching any NFL matchup. A 10x10 grid creates 100 squares, each representing a unique combination of score digits for both teams. The game requires zero football knowledge to play, which is part of what makes it so popular.
Here is how it works: participants claim squares on the grid before the game starts. Once all squares are filled, the row and column numbers (0-9) are randomly assigned. At the end of each quarter, you check the last digit of each team's score. The square where those digits intersect wins that quarter.
For example, if the score is Chiefs 17, Ravens 14 at halftime, you would look for the square at column 7 (Chiefs) and row 4 (Ravens). Whoever claimed that square wins the second quarter. For a deeper look at the rules, visit our How to Play page.
With four quarters and natural scoring breaks, NFL football is ideal for squares games. Each quarter gives someone a chance to win, keeping everyone engaged from kickoff to the final whistle. Curious which numbers come up most? Check out our best squares numbers breakdown.

Absolutely. Create a separate game for each matchup, or run a season-long game where you use the same grid across multiple weeks.
It depends on the scoring format you choose when creating the game. In Standard mode, the final score (including OT) determines the Q4/Final winner. In "With Overtime" mode, we track end-of-regulation separately, so you get a 5th winner if the game goes to OT. Our overtime guide explains both formats in detail.
