How NFL Playoff Squares Work

01

Pick a Playoff Game

Every postseason matchup lands on the schedule the moment it is set, wild card weekend through the conference title games.

02

Rally Your Group

Share a single link and watch the grid fill between games. Remote groups join as easily as the household.

03

Randomize at Kickoff

Draw the numbers once everyone is in. Our notes on building a good grid cover the timing.

04

Track Every Swing

Playoff scoring swings are wild, and the board keeps up automatically, quarter by quarter to the final gun.

What Are NFL Playoff Squares?

NFL playoff squares work just like regular football squares, but with the added intensity of postseason football. The board holds 100 squares on a 10-by-10 grid, and at every quarter break the final digit of each team's score singles out one winning square. You do not need to know anything about football to play.

The NFL postseason features 13 games across four rounds, giving you plenty of opportunities to run a squares game. Every game matters more in the playoffs, and every scoring play can shift who is winning on your grid.

Why playoff squares hit different

Playoff games tend to be closer and more dramatic than regular season games. Late scoring drives, overtime thrillers, and unexpected outcomes make every quarter exciting for your grid. Curious which numbers win most? See our best squares numbers breakdown.

NFL Playoff Squares FAQ

Should I create one game for the whole playoffs?

Each game needs its own squares grid since the teams and scores are different. Create a new game for each playoff matchup you want to follow. Some groups run one per round, while others create a grid for every single game.

What are the best numbers for NFL playoff squares?

The same numbers that are strong in the regular season carry over: 0, 7, 3, and 4 are the most common final score digits. Playoff games tend to be tighter, which means more low-scoring quarters where 0 and 7 dominate.

How does overtime work in NFL playoff squares?

NFL playoff games cannot end in a tie, so overtime is always a possibility. In standard mode, the final score after OT determines the last winner. In with-overtime mode, end of regulation and final OT score are separate winners. Our overtime guide has full details.

When should I set up my playoff squares?

Create your game as soon as the matchup is set and share it immediately. Playoff weeks go fast, so give your group at least a couple of days to claim squares before kickoff. For tips, see our guide on what makes a good grid.

Is this different from Super Bowl squares?

The format is identical. The Super Bowl is just the final game of the NFL playoffs. We have a dedicated Super Bowl Squares page with game-specific details.

Do I need to know football to play?

Nope. Luck decides everything in squares, which is exactly why it works for mixed groups. Read our guide on squares for non-sports fans to see why everyone enjoys it.

Is this really free?

It is. Every feature, every playoff game, every board is free, with no upgrade prompts and no hidden fees.
