What Are Baby Squares?

Baby squares bring the fun of the classic football squares format to baby showers. A 10x10 grid creates 100 squares, with one axis representing the last digit of the birth date (0-9) and the other representing the last digit of the birth time in minutes (0-9). For more on how the grid concept works, see our How to Play guide.

When the baby arrives, you check the actual birth date and time. For example, if baby is born on the 14th at 3:47 PM, the winning square is where 4 (last digit of date) meets 7 (last digit of minutes). Whoever claimed that square earns the bragging rights!

๐Ÿ’ก
Why it works

Unlike trivia or guessing games, baby squares gives everyone an equal chance. The numbers are randomized, so whether you know the parents well or just met them, you have the same shot at winning.

How the Winner is Determined

Example

Baby born on: March 22nd Last digit: 2
Baby born at: 9:38 AM Last digit: 8
๐Ÿ† Winner: Square at 2 (date) and 8 (time)

The beauty of baby squares is that every square has an equal chance of winning. Since birth timing is unpredictable, there are no "better" or "worse" squares. It is all about the luck of when baby decides to arrive!

Perfect For Any Baby Celebration

Baby squares work for all kinds of gatherings and groups.

Alternative Baby Squares Formats

Birth date and time is the most popular format, but you can adapt the game to use different axes:

๐Ÿ“… + โฐ Birth Date & Time

Most popular. One axis is the last digit of the birth date, the other is the last digit of the birth time (minutes).

๐Ÿ“… + โš–๏ธ Birth Date & Weight

One axis is the last digit of the birth date, the other is the last digit of the weight in ounces.

โฐ + โš–๏ธ Birth Time & Weight

One axis is the last digit of the minutes, the other is the last digit of the weight in ounces.

โš–๏ธ + ๐Ÿ“ Weight & Length

One axis is the last digit of the weight in ounces, the other is the last digit of the length in inches.

When you create your game, you can customize the axis labels to match whichever format you prefer. You can also use our Custom Squares builder for full control over labels and scoring.

Baby Squares FAQ

When should I set up baby squares?

Set it up a few weeks before the due date to give everyone time to claim their squares. The baby shower is a perfect time to share the link, but you can start earlier for remote participants.

What if the grid is not completely full?

That is fine! You do not need all 100 squares claimed. Just make sure to randomize the numbers before baby arrives. Empty squares simply will not have anyone to claim the bragging rights if they win.

Can people claim multiple squares?

Yes! It is up to you. Some hosts limit each person to one square to spread the fun, while others let people claim as many as they want.

What if baby is born right at midnight or on the hour?

If baby is born at exactly 12:00, the minutes digit is 0. If born at midnight on the 10th, the date digit is 0 (last digit of 10). The math still works!

Do I need to create an account?

No. You will get an admin link to manage your game, and guests can claim squares without signing up for anything.

Can I use this for twins?

Absolutely! You could create two separate games (one for each baby) or use one game and pick the winner based on the first baby born.
